Caring for your Cloth Nappies
Follow our washing and care instructions to extend the life of your cloth diapers and keep them looking as good as the day you brought them.
Before using on the little one’s you will need to prewash your nappies around 3-4 times to reach there maximum absorbency. We suggest that you wash them on a full cycle no hotter than 60 degrees and use a standard amount of laundry powder with your wash cycle.
Washing Cloth Nappies
We recommend you don’t leave your dirty nappies more than 2 days as this will encourage the growth of bacteria (which we really don’t want).
- Wash nappies and inserts on a warm pre-rinse cycle beforehand.
- Then wash on a regular warm cycle no hotter than 60 degrees with a standard amount of laundry detergent
We recommend that whatever washing detergent you choose, it should not contain bleach, whiteners, fabric softeners or vinegar pre-rinse. When these chemicals are in the detergent it can reduce the lifespan of the PUL, elastics & bamboo fabrics in your nappies.
Drying Cloth Nappies
Luna & Lou nappies and inserts are definitely best dried outside on the line, the sunlight will naturally remove stains which is a added bonus. If you don’t have the space outside then drying your cloth nappies on a drying rack will work just fine.
If you do choose to use a dryer, especially through them wet months, we recommend you dry the nappies and inserts in two separate loads. The nappy covers should be placed on a low temperature as a hotter temperature can cause the fabric to delaminate, reducing the lifespan of your nappies. On the other hand the cloth inserts can take longer to dry but can be placed on a hotter heat.
